YouTube title A/B test: views and revenue gained through CTR
Views = impressions × click-through rate (CTR). The tool compares two titles using the CTR you enter for each: 50,000 impressions at 4.2% give 2,100 views, at 6.8% 3,400 views, i.e. +62%, then it derives revenue (views ÷ 1,000 × RPM) and subscribers gained. Each title's score out of 100 is a separate checklist that does not enter this calculation.
How gains are calculated
- Views A = round(impressions × CTR A); views B = round(impressions × CTR B).
- Revenue = views ÷ 1,000 × RPM; subscribers = round(views × subscribe rate per view).
- Gain = value B − value A; growth = (views B − views A) ÷ views A.
Title score (out of 100)
Base 50; +15 if the title has 40 to 65 characters, −10 above 70; +10 if it contains a number; +10 for brackets or parentheses; +10 for a curiosity word (how, why, tested, results, truth, question mark…); +10 for a strong word (mistake, guide, free, fast, real…). The score stays between 10 and 100.
Example (default French titles)
Title A has 47 characters, a number and a curiosity word: 50 + 15 + 10 + 10 = 85. Title B has 61 characters, a number, parentheses, a curiosity word and a strong word: 105, capped at 100. With 50,000 impressions, CTRs of 4.2% and 6.8%, an RPM of 4.50 and a 1.2% subscribe rate: 2,100 against 3,400 views (+1,300, +62%), 9.45 against 15.30 in revenue (+5.85) and 25 against 41 subscribers (+16).
Limits
- CTRs are your assumptions: the tool does not predict a title's click-through rate. Only a real test, such as YouTube Studio's title and thumbnail testing when it is available on your channel, measures the actual difference.
- Impressions are assumed identical for both titles, whereas the algorithm gives more of them to a video that holds viewers well.
- List words are matched as whole words, with or without a common ending ("results", "faster"): "freedom" does not count as "free". A more distant form, such as "easier" for "easy", is not recognised.
Frequently Asked Questions
How many views does 1 extra CTR point bring?
Views = impressions × CTR. On 50,000 impressions, each extra CTR point adds 500 views; going from 4.2% to 6.8% gains 1,300 views, i.e. +62%.
How long should a YouTube title be?
The tool gives its top bonus (+15) to titles of 40 to 65 characters and removes 10 points above 70, the length from which it warns of truncation on mobile.
Does the score out of 100 predict CTR?
No. The score checks for elements (number, brackets, curiosity word, strong word, length); views and revenue are calculated only from the CTRs you enter.
How does the tool calculate extra revenue?
Revenue = views ÷ 1,000 × RPM. With an RPM of 4.50, 3,400 views earn 15.30 against 9.45 for 2,100 views, so 5.85 more for variant B.
