The tool compares each dimension of your bag with the chosen airline's sizer (length + width + height for checked bags, usually 158 cm) and adds the empty bag weight to an estimate of its contents. With the default settings, a 55 × 35 × 23 cm Air France cabin bag weighs 13.4 kg, 1.4 kg over the 12 kg Economy limit.

Calculation

Cabin and under-seat: each side must stay within the limit. Checked: length + width + height ≤ linear limit. Weight = empty bag + estimated contents (trousers 0.5 kg, top 0.2 kg, jacket 1.2 kg, pair of shoes 0.9 kg) + toiletries, electronics and extras. When no weight is published for the under-seat bag, the tool uses 8 kg.

Example

A 2.8 kg bag with 4 trousers, 7 tops, 1 jacket, 2 pairs of shoes and 4.2 kg of toiletries, electronics and extras: 13.4 kg in total. Its 55 × 35 × 23 cm (113 cm, 44.3 litres) fits the Air France sizer, but it is 1.4 kg overweight.

Lufthansa baggage by class

The tool has two Lufthansa profiles. In every class, the personal item may measure up to 40 × 30 × 15 cm and each cabin bag 55 × 40 × 23 cm and 8 kg: one in Economy and Premium Economy, two in Business and First. In the hold, each bag may reach 158 cm (length + width + height) and 23 kg in Economy and Premium Economy, 32 kg in Business and First. The number of checked bags depends on the fare: none with Economy Basic and Economy Light, one with the other Economy fares, one or two in Premium Economy and Business, three in First. On short and medium-haul flights, the Economy Basic fare includes the personal item only.

Limits

Allowances depend on the fare: the cabin bag is often included only with a paid option at Ryanair, easyJet or Wizz Air. Clothing weights are averages. Check your booking before you travel.

The free bag must fit 40 × 30 × 20 cm since 4 September 2025 and go under the seat. The 55 × 40 × 20 cm, 10 kg cabin bag is included only with the Priority option.

How many kilos can I take in the cabin on Air France?

In Economy, the cabin bag (55 × 35 × 25 cm) and accessory together must not exceed 12 kg. With the tool's default settings, a full bag reaches 13.4 kg, so 1.4 kg has to go.

How do I measure the total dimensions of a checked bag?

Add length, width and height, including wheels and handles. Most airlines accept 158 cm; a 75 × 50 × 30 cm suitcase totals 155 cm and passes.

Does the easyJet under-seat bag have a weight limit?

Yes, easyJet states a maximum of 15 kg for the 45 × 36 × 20 cm small bag, provided you can carry it yourself. The large 56 × 45 × 25 cm cabin bag is a paid option and is also capped at 15 kg.
