The converter applies one fixed rule to the whole text: upper case, lower case, title case or a programming naming style. “customer date of birth” becomes customerDateOfBirth in camelCase, customer_date_of_birth in snake_case and customer-date-of-birth in kebab-case.

How words are split

For code formats the tool finds words with a regular expression: a run of lower-case letters optionally preceded by a capital, an all-caps acronym, or a number. Spaces, hyphens and other separators are dropped, so an existing identifier is re-split: “getHTTPResponse code 404” becomes getHttpResponseCode404 in camelCase and get_http_response_code_404 in snake_case.

Limits

  • Accented letters are kept in code formats (“café menu” gives café_menu in snake_case); the slug replaces them with the plain letter (cafe-menu). If your programming language rejects accents in identifiers, strip them first.
  • Sentence case capitalises the start of the text and the first letter after each full stop, exclamation mark or question mark, and lowers everything else, proper nouns included.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between camelCase and PascalCase?

Both join words without separators and capitalise each word. In camelCase the first word stays lower case (totalPrice); in PascalCase it is capitalised too (TotalPrice), the usual convention for class names.

When should I use snake_case or kebab-case?

snake_case (total_price) joins words with underscores, the convention in Python and many databases. kebab-case (total-price) uses hyphens and is common for file names, CSS classes and URLs.

How do I turn a title into a URL slug?

Slug mode lowers the case, removes punctuation and replaces spaces and underscores with a single hyphen. Accented letters are replaced by the plain letter: “café menu” gives “cafe-menu”.

Does sentence case keep capitals on proper nouns?

No. It capitalises the start of the text and the first letter after each full stop, exclamation mark or question mark, and lowers everything else, including proper nouns. Fix those by hand after converting.
