French ARE Unemployment Calculator: Rupture Conventionnelle

Estimate your French unemployment benefit (ARE) after a rupture conventionnelle: monthly net amount paid by France Travail, waiting days before the first payment and maximum duration by age.

Unemployment after a French mutual termination: delays, ARE, duration

Under French law, the rupture conventionnelle (mutual termination) payment is at least 1/4 of a month's salary per year of service (1/3 beyond 10 years). Unemployment benefit (ARE) only starts after a 7-day waiting period, a paid-leave deferral and a specific deferral equal to the above-statutory amount divided by 111.8 (150 days at most). For contracts ending on or after 1 September 2026, it lasts at most 15 months under age 55 and 20.5 months from 55.

What the tool calculates

  • Payment: 1/4 of a month per year up to 10 years, 1/3 beyond, part years pro rata; the extra negotiated amount bears 9.7% CSG-CRDS (French social levies).
  • ARE: daily reference wage (SJR) = monthly salary × 12 ÷ 365; gross benefit = the higher of 40.4% of SJR + €13.18 or 57% of SJR, between €32.13 and 75% of SJR, minus a 3%-of-SJR pension deduction (never below €32.13), × 30.42 for a month.
  • Deferrals: 7 days + paid-leave pay ÷ SJR (30 days at most in the tool) + above-statutory amount ÷ 111.8 (150 days at most).

Example with the default settings

€3,200 gross a month, 4 years 6 months of service, €3,000 negotiated, 12 days of untaken leave, age 38. Statutory payment: 800 × 4.5 = €3,600; total €6,600, or €6,309 net after €291 of CSG-CRDS. SJR: €105.21; the 57% option gives €59.97 gross a day, or €56.81 net after the €3.16 deduction (3% of SJR), about €1,728 net a month for 15 months at most. Deferral: 7 + 17 (€1,772 of leave pay) + 27 (3,000 ÷ 111.8) = 51 days.

Durations since 1 September 2026

For an individual rupture conventionnelle whose contract ends on or after that date, benefit lasts at most 456 days (15 months) under 55 and 624 days (20.5 months) from 55, against 18, 22.5 and 27 months before. Only the contract end date counts; from 55, an extension can be requested from France Travail.

Limits

The real SJR uses wages over the reference period, not a single month, and the duration shown is a maximum that assumes enough days worked. CSG-CRDS on the ARE is not deducted. This is an estimate under French rules; it does not replace France Travail's decision or professional advice.

Frequently Asked Questions

How long does unemployment benefit last after a rupture conventionnelle in 2026?

If your contract ends on or after 1 September 2026, ARE is paid for at most 456 days (15 months) under 55 and 624 days (20.5 months) from 55. Before that date the caps were 18, 22.5 and 27 months depending on age. What counts is the contract end date, not the signing date.

How is the waiting period calculated after a mutual termination in France?

Three delays add up: a 7-day waiting period, a paid-leave deferral (leave pay ÷ daily reference wage) and a specific deferral equal to the above-statutory amount divided by 111.8 in 2026, capped at 150 days. With the default settings this gives 7 + 17 + 27 = 51 days.

How much unemployment benefit will I get after a rupture conventionnelle?

The gross daily ARE is the higher of 40.4% of the daily reference wage + €13.18 or 57% of that wage, never below €32.13. For €3,200 gross a month the tool uses €59.97 gross a day, or about €1,728 net a month after the pension deduction of 3% of the daily reference wage.

Does an above-statutory payment reduce my unemployment rights?

It delays the first payment without shortening the entitlement: every €111.8 above the statutory minimum adds one day of deferral. The 150-day cap is reached at €16,770 of above-statutory pay, and the cap is only 75 days for a termination on economic grounds.
