French gross to net salary: rates used and 2026 contributions

In France, net salary before income tax is gross pay minus employee social contributions. The tool applies a flat 23% for non-executive staff and 25% for executives (cadres): €35,000 gross a year therefore gives €26,950 net, or €2,245.83 a month. Statutory 2026 rates come to about 20.8% below the social security ceiling, before health and provident cover.

How the tool calculates

Annual gross (or monthly × 12) × (1 − rate), with 23% for non-executive staff and 25% for executives. Monthly net is annual net divided by 12; the contributions shown are the gap between gross and net.

Example

€35,000 gross a year, non-executive: 35,000 × 0.77 = €26,950 net a year, or €2,245.83 a month, and €8,050 of contributions. As an executive: €26,250 a year, or €2,187.50 a month.

What the 2026 statutory rates say

  • Old-age insurance: 6.90% up to the €4,005 monthly ceiling, plus 0.40% on the whole salary.
  • Agirc-Arrco supplementary pension: 3.15% plus 0.86% general balance contribution up to the ceiling (8.64% and 1.08% above it, plus 0.14% CET).
  • CSG 9.2%, of which 2.4% non-deductible, and CRDS 0.5%, on 98.25% of gross.
  • Apec: 0.024%, executives only.

Below the ceiling, these come to about 20.84% for non-executives and 20.86% for executives. For €35,000 gross that gives €27,706 net before the employee share of health and provident cover, which varies by company. The tool’s 23% and 25% therefore build in a margin for that cover.

Limits

  • No bracket calculation, part-time, tax-exempt overtime or apprenticeship.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between Executive and Non-Executive status?

The tool applies about 25% of contributions for executives (cadres) and 23% for non-executives. Under the 2026 statutory rates the gap is small below the social security ceiling: executives also pay the Apec contribution (0.024%) and have mandatory provident cover, whose employee share depends on the company.

Does net salary include income taxes?

Net salary before tax does not include withholding tax. Take-home pay after tax will depend on your personal withholding rate.

What percentage of gross goes to contributions in France in 2026?

Statutory employee contributions come to about 20.8% of gross below the €4,005 monthly ceiling: 7.30% old-age insurance, 4.01% Agirc-Arrco and CEG, and 9.7% CSG-CRDS on 98.25% of gross. The employee share of health and provident cover comes on top; the tool uses 23% or 25%, which gives a cautious net figure.

How much is €35,000 gross a year in net pay?

The tool shows €26,950 net a year, or €2,245.83 a month, for a non-executive (23%), and €26,250, or €2,187.50 a month, for an executive (25%). Using only the 2026 statutory rates gives about €27,706 before health and provident cover.
