Slack, Teams and Discord Message Formatter
Add bold, italics, code and quotes with buttons, preview the message and copy the right syntax for each app.
Bold, italics and code: Slack, Teams and Discord syntax
Slack makes text bold with one asterisk on each side (*text*), Discord with two (**text**); italics are written _text_, code goes between backticks and a quote starts with >. The tool inserts these marks with buttons, simulates the message preview and copies the matching syntax: in Teams or Discord mode it converts Slack-style *bold* into **bold**.
What the tool does
- Slack mode: text is copied as is, in mrkdwn syntax (*bold*, _italic_, ~strike~, `code`, block between triple backticks, quote with >).
- Teams and Discord modes: every single-asterisk pair *text* becomes **text** on copy; in Discord mode ~text~ also becomes ~~text~~. Nothing else changes. The italic button inserts _text_ on all three platforms and the strike button inserts ~~text~~ in Discord mode.
- Buttons append a marked-up sample to the message: bold, italic, strike, code, code block, quote or • bullet.
- The preview renders quotes, code blocks and bullets; bold or italic marks stay visible as typed.
Example
The default message starts with *Release v2.4 launch*. In Slack mode it is copied unchanged and shows in bold. In Discord mode the tool copies **Release v2.4 launch**, the form Discord renders in bold.
Known limits
- For the Teams compose box, Microsoft documents *bold*, _italic_ and ~strike~, like Slack, and does not mention **bold**: for Teams, Slack mode matches the documented syntax better.
- • bullets are plain text; Discord and Teams also recognise lists starting with - or *.

Frequently Asked Questions
How do I make text bold in Slack?
Wrap the text in a single asterisk: *text*. Italics are _text_, strikethrough ~text~ and code `text`. With the formatting toolbar shown, Slack applies these marks as you type; otherwise turn on formatting with markup in the advanced preferences.
Why doesn't my Slack bold work on Discord?
Discord follows classic Markdown: one asterisk on each side gives italics, bold needs two (**text**). Strikethrough also needs two tildes (~~text~~). In Discord mode the tool converts your *bold* to **bold** and your ~strike~ to ~~strike~~.
Which syntax should I use in Microsoft Teams?
Microsoft's help page, checked on 14/10/2026, lists *bold*, _italic_, ~strike~, `code`, blocks between triple backticks and > for quotes in the compose box, the same syntax as Slack. The tool's Teams mode outputs **bold**, a form that page does not mention. For a message typed in Teams, Slack mode is the better match.
How do I add a code block to a team message?
Put three backticks on the line before the code and three on the line after; the syntax is the same in Slack, Teams and Discord. For a one-line snippet, a single backtick on each side is enough. The tool's Block button inserts this frame around sample text.
