vCard QR Code Generator for Digital Business Cards
Enter your contact details to get a vCard QR code that saves them on iOS, Android or Outlook, plus the .vcf file.
vCard QR code: what the card contains and how phones read it
The tool assembles your details in vCard 3.0 format (RFC 2426), a text that iOS, Android and Outlook address books can import, then encodes it in a QR code at error-correction level M. Scanned with the camera, the code offers to save the contact; the same text can be downloaded as a .vcf file. The sample card is 418 bytes, which gives a version 15 QR code (77 × 77 modules).
Fields written to the vCard
NandFN: first and last name;TITLE: job title.ORG: company, mobile and officeTEL,EMAIL, websiteURL.X-SOCIALPROFILE: LinkedIn profile (a non-standard extension read by Apple Contacts and ignored by some apps).ADR: street, city and postcode, with the country left empty.- Commas, semicolons and backslashes in values are escaped as RFC 2426 requires, and every line ends with CRLF; an empty field leaves no blank line.
Example and QR code size
With the sample data (Alexandre Dubois, two phone numbers, website, LinkedIn, a Paris address), the text is 418 bytes. At level M, which can rebuild about 15% of damaged symbols, this needs a version 15 QR code: 77 × 77 modules drawn in 260 pixels with a 2-module margin. Dropping the LinkedIn profile brings it down to version 14 and makes the code easier to read when printed small. Colours can be changed; keep the background much lighter than the modules or scanners fail.
Limits found in the code
- Department, country and note have no input field, so the card does not contain them.
- No photo and no vCard 4.0.

Frequently Asked Questions
How do I add a contact by scanning a vCard QR code?
Open the camera on an iPhone or Android phone (or Google Lens) and point it at the code: a notification offers to create the contact with the fields filled in. Recent phones need no extra app. On a computer, import the .vcf file into Outlook or Contacts instead.
Does a vCard QR code expire?
No: it is a static QR code that holds the card text itself, with no link to a server. It works as long as the image is readable. The flip side is that you must generate and reprint a new code whenever your number or job title changes.
Why is my vCard QR code so dense?
Every character adds modules: the 418-byte sample card needs a version 15 QR code, which is 77 × 77 modules. Removing the LinkedIn link brings it down to version 14. The denser the code, the larger it must be printed to stay readable.
What is the difference between vCard 3.0 and vCard 4.0?
Version 3.0 comes from RFC 2426 (September 1998) and is still the best recognised by phones; 4.0 (RFC 6350, August 2011) requires UTF-8 and adds properties. This tool produces 3.0, with the LinkedIn profile in an X-SOCIALPROFILE extension that not every address book reads.
