French Invoice Generator: Invoices, Quotes, Credit Notes
Add your line items: VAT is totaled per rate, the art. 293 B exemption notice is added if needed, ready to print.
Invoice, quote or credit note: totals and French rules in 2026
Each line is quantity × unit price excluding VAT; VAT is computed per line and grouped by rate, and the total adds net amounts and all VAT. Under the French VAT franchise, rates drop to 0 and the statement “TVA non applicable, art. 293 B du CGI” appears. The document prints or exports to PDF with the payment terms required by French law.
The calculation
Net total = Σ (quantity × unit price excl. VAT). VAT at a given rate = Σ of lines at that rate × rate. Gross total = net total + Σ VAT. Amounts are shown to two decimals.
Example
3 days of services at €450 net (20% VAT) and 2 books at €25 net (5.5% VAT): net total €1,400.00, 20% VAT €270.00, 5.5% VAT €2.75, so €272.75 of VAT and €1,672.75 gross. Under the franchise, the same invoice shows €1,400.00 due.
What the document contains
- Issuer (name, legal form, capital, address, SIRET, VAT number, contact), client (SIRET and VAT number if a business), number, issue date, service date, due date (30 days by default).
- For an invoice: late-payment penalties (prefilled “3x taux légal”), the €40 fixed recovery fee for business clients and a no-discount statement. For a quote: validity date. For a credit note: reference of the original invoice.
- Optional bank details and notes.
Limits
- The number is free text and continuity is not checked; the site's invoice numbering sequencer is there to build the series.
- No field for the purchase order or the new French e-invoicing mentions (client SIREN, delivery address, nature of the transaction, VAT-on-debits option), mandatory for large and mid-sized companies since 1 September 2026 and for SMEs and micro-businesses from 1 September 2027.
- A PDF is not an electronic invoice under that reform.
Sources and dates: Entreprendre Service Public, mandatory invoice mentions (French Commercial Code art. Frequently Asked Questions
What must a French invoice show in 2026?
Issue date and a unique number from a continuous sequence, service date, full seller details (including SIREN, legal form and capital for a company) and client details, VAT number, description, quantity, unit price excluding VAT and VAT rate, net and gross totals, due date, late-payment penalty rate and the €40 fee for business clients. Four further mentions come with the e-invoicing reform: 1 September 2026 for large and mid-sized firms, 1 September 2027 for SMEs.
How do you calculate VAT on an invoice with several rates?
Compute VAT per line (net amount × rate), then group by rate. For €1,350 net at 20% and €50 net at 5.5%, the invoice shows €270.00 and €2.75 of VAT, for €1,672.75 gross.
What statement must a French micro-entrepreneur under the VAT franchise put on invoices?
“TVA non applicable, art. 293 B du CGI”. When you tick franchise mode, the tool sets every line to 0%, replaces the gross total with a plain total and adds this statement below the totals.
Is a PDF invoice still valid under French e-invoicing?
Since 1 September 2026 every VAT-registered business must be able to receive electronic invoices, and large and mid-sized firms must issue them. SMEs and micro-businesses follow on 1 September 2027 for domestic business-to-business invoices; the PDF produced here does not meet that obligation.
