Aim trainer: static targets, tracking and accuracy

Shoot static targets or track a moving one for 15, 30 or 60 seconds: score, accuracy and average time per target, with optional Pointer Lock on desktop.

How the aim trainer works out your score and accuracy

In static mode, every target hit scores 1 point and accuracy is hits divided by clicks. In tracking mode, the score is the share of time your pointer stays on the moving target.

The two modes

  • Static targets: a target appears at a random spot; as soon as you hit it, the next one appears. Time per target runs from its appearance to the hit.
  • Tracking: the target moves at a constant speed, 22% of the arena width per second, and changes direction every 0.5 to 1.5 seconds. Keep your pointer on it.

Example

A 30-second static game: 50 clicks, 42 hits, last hit at 29.4 s. Accuracy = 42 ÷ 50 = 84%; average time per target = 29,400 ÷ 42 = 700 ms; rate = 42 ÷ 30 = 1.4 targets per second. In tracking, 18.6 s on target over 30 s gives 18.6 ÷ 30 = 62%.

Pointer Lock and mobile

On a computer, the pointer lock option hides the cursor and reads relative mouse movement (movementX, movementY), as in a first-person shooter. The tool also asks to turn off mouse acceleration where the system allows it (unadjustedMovement). Esc releases the pointer and ends the game. Phones and tablets have no Pointer Lock: you play by touch, tapping the targets or following the moving one with a finger.

Limits

  • Scores depend on screen size, mouse sensitivity and display latency, so compare yourself on the same device with the same settings.
  • The animation runs only during a game and stops when the tab is hidden; that time is not counted.

Frequently Asked Questions

How is accuracy calculated?

It is the number of targets hit divided by the number of clicks. With 42 hits from 50 clicks, accuracy is 84%. A click beside the target counts as a miss.

What does pointer lock do?

It hides the cursor and reads relative mouse movement, which is no longer stopped by the screen edge, as in a shooter. The tool also asks to turn off mouse acceleration if the system allows it. Esc releases the pointer and ends the game.

Can I train on a phone?

Yes, by touch: tap the static targets, or keep your finger on the moving target in tracking mode. Pointer Lock does not exist on mobile, so the option only appears on a computer with a mouse.

Which target size should I pick?

The diameters are 3%, 5% and 7.5% of the arena width. Start with the large target to tune your sensitivity, then move to medium and small once your scores settle.
