Enneagram 9 Personality Types & Wings Explorer

Explore the 9 Enneagram personality archetypes, instinctual centers (Gut, Heart, Head), deepest unconscious fears, and neighboring wings.

The nine Enneagram types, their centres and their wings

The Enneagram describes nine personality types grouped into three centres: instinctive (types 8, 9 and 1), emotional (2, 3 and 4) and mental (5, 6 and 7). A type’s wings are the two neighbouring types on the circle: a type 7 can have a 6 or an 8 wing, and 9 and 1 are neighbours.

What the tool does

The tool is an explorer: you pick one of the nine types and it shows its name, centre, a short description, core motivation, core fear and two possible wings. It contains no questionnaire and calculates no score, so it does not work out your type for you. Type 7 is shown by default.

Wing rule

The nine types sit on a circle. A type’s possible wings are the two adjacent numbers, written “7w6” or “7w8” for a type 7. The circle wraps around: type 9 has wings 8 and 1, type 1 has wings 9 and 2. The tool does not say which wing dominates.

The three centres

  • Instinctive (body): 8 (the Challenger), 9 (the Peacemaker), 1 (the Reformer).
  • Emotional (heart): 2 (the Helper), 3 (the Achiever), 4 (the Individualist).
  • Mental (head): 5 (the Investigator), 6 (the Loyalist), 7 (the Enthusiast).

Limits

The Enneagram has no established scientific validation as a personality measure. The descriptions are prompts for reflection, not a psychological assessment or a hiring criterion. Arrows of integration and disintegration, instinctual subtypes and levels of development used by some schools are not shown.

Frequently Asked Questions

What are the possible wings of my type?

They are the two neighbouring types on the circle: a 4 has wings 3 and 5, a 9 has wings 8 and 1. The type is written with its wing, for example 4w5.

Which types belong to the emotional centre?

Types 2, 3 and 4 form the emotional (heart) centre. The instinctive centre groups 8, 9 and 1, the mental centre 5, 6 and 7.

Does this tool tell me my Enneagram type?

No: it has no questionnaire and no score. You choose one of the nine types and the tool shows its description, motivation, fear and wings.

Is the Enneagram scientifically validated?

It has no established scientific validation as a personality measure. It can support self-reflection, not diagnosis or hiring decisions.
