Mayan birth sign calculator: Dreamspell kin and nawal
Find your Mayan kin and solar seal in the Dreamspell 13 Moon count, with tone, wavespell and oracle, plus your traditional tzolk'in nawal.
How the Mayan kin is calculated in both systems
The kin is the position of a day in a 260-day cycle: 13 tones combined with 20 seals. José Argüelles' 13 Moon Synchronometer and the traditional tzolk'in count this cycle from different points, hence two results. For 15 March 1990, the Synchronometer gives kin 216 (Yellow Warrior, tone 8) and the tzolk'in the day 7 Akbal, nawal Aq'ab'al.
13 Moon Synchronometer (Dreamspell)
Days are counted from a reference date, leaving out February 29, which the Synchronometer calls "0.0 Hunab Ku" and keeps outside the cycle (Dreamspell on Wikipedia). Checked reference: 26 July 2025 opened the Yellow Resonant Seed year, kin 124 (Telediario, 2025). The seal is the kin modulo 20 (0 is the Sun) and the tone is (kin − 1) modulo 13 + 1. In the oracle, the analog adds up to 19 with the seal, the antipode is 10 seals away and the occult adds up to 21 with the seal and 14 with the tone.
Traditional tzolk'in
It uses the GMT correlation: Julian day 584283 is a 4 Ajaw, like 21 December 2012, Julian day 2456283 (Long Count on Wikipedia). Maya communities in Guatemala and Chiapas still keep this count.
Worked example
15 March 1990: in the Synchronometer, kin 216, seal 16 (Yellow Warrior), tone 8 (Galactic), Red Moon wavespell; analog kin 203, antipode kin 86, occult kin 45. In the tzolk'in, day 163 of the cycle: 7 Akbal (Aq'ab'al in K'iche'). The two counts are 207 days apart.
Limits
Argüelles himself presented Dreamspell as a new creation, not as the calendar of the ancient Maya. The oracle guide is not shown because no published source we checked confirms its rule for every tone. See also the numerology calculator and the Chinese zodiac calculator.
Frequently Asked Questions
Why is my Mayan kin different on other websites?
Because there are two counts. Sites based on the 13 Moon Synchronometer (Dreamspell) give one kin, sites based on the traditional tzolk'in another, and the gap shifts by one day every leap year. For 15 March 1990 the gap is 207 days: kin 216 against day 163.
What if I was born on February 29?
In the Synchronometer, February 29 is the 0.0 Hunab Ku day and has no kin of its own; the calculator shows the kin of February 28 and says so. In the traditional tzolk'in, February 29 is an ordinary day with its own number and nawal.
What is the galactic signature?
It is the Synchronometer name for the combination of a kin's solar seal, tone and colour, for example Yellow Galactic Warrior for kin 216. With 20 seals and 13 tones there are 260 signatures.
What is the nawal in the traditional Mayan calendar?
It is the tzolk'in day of your birth, with its K'iche' name such as Aq'ab'al or B'atz'. Spiritual guides (ajq'ij) in Guatemala, who still keep the 260-day count, use it; the calculator applies the GMT correlation 584283.
