Minecraft circle generator: ellipses, spheres and domes
Plan a Minecraft circle or ellipse block by block, filled or outlined, then a sphere or dome layer by layer, with the block count for every row and layer.
How to build a circle in Minecraft: edge rule and block count
A block is placed when its centre lies inside the shape: (x ÷ a)² + (y ÷ b)² ≤ 1, where a and b are the half-width and half-height in blocks. A circle 21 blocks across therefore takes 56 blocks as a thin outline and 349 filled, for a theoretical area of 346.4.
Building rule
The shape is centred on the grid. With an odd diameter the centre falls in the middle of a block; with an even one, between four blocks; the block-centre rule handles both without manual offsets. In outline mode a block is kept when a cell outside the shape lies T steps or fewer up, down, left or right; with T = 1 you get the usual thin line, joined at the corners. For a sphere of diameter D, a block is solid when its centre is within D ÷ 2 of the centre; the shell keeps solid blocks with at least one of their six faces open to the outside.
Worked example
A 21-block thin circle: the first row has 7 blocks (columns 8 to 14), the second 2 + 2, then 1 + 1 down to row 20, for 56 blocks. A 15-block sphere: 1,791 blocks solid (theoretical volume π × 15³ ÷ 6 = 1,767), 530 as a shell, spread bottom to top as 21, 48, 28, 32, 36, then 40 on five layers. The matching dome (8 layers including the equator) uses 285.
Limits
The 2D grid goes up to 128 blocks, the sphere up to 128 across and the 3D preview up to 64, to stay smooth on a phone. The layer-by-layer view remains the reference for building. A Minecraft world has 384 buildable layers (Y −64 to 319), so a 128-block sphere fits easily. Unofficial tool, not affiliated with Mojang or Microsoft.

Frequently Asked Questions
How do you make a perfect circle in Minecraft?
A circle of blocks is never perfect: you place every block whose centre lies inside the circle. For a diameter of 21, the top row has 7 blocks, then the outline steps down one block per row. Follow the grid row by row from the top.
How many blocks does a sphere take in Minecraft?
A sphere 15 blocks across takes 1,791 blocks solid and 530 hollow (a one-block shell). The solid count is close to π × D³ ÷ 6 and the shell roughly follows the surface, about 2.4 × D² at this size.
Should the diameter be odd or even?
An odd diameter gives a centre block, handy for marking the middle or placing a pillar. An even diameter puts the centre between four blocks and gives edge rows of even length. Both are symmetric under the block-centre rule.
How do I build a dome layer by layer?
Turn on the dome, then place the layers from bottom to top with the slider. For a diameter of 15 the dome has 8 layers, equator included, and 285 blocks as a shell; the bottom layer is a ring of 40 blocks.
