Pokémon IV calculator: FireRed, Emerald, Platinum, Gen 3-9

Work out your Pokémon's IVs in FireRed, Emerald, Platinum or Scarlet from its stats, level, nature and EVs, with the Generation 3 to 9 formula.

How to calculate a Pokémon's IVs (Generation 3 to 9)

Enter the Pokémon, its level, nature, EVs and the six stats shown in game: the calculator tries all 32 possible IVs (0 to 31) in the Generation 3 formula and keeps those that give back each stat. A level 78 Adamant Garchomp with 289 HP and 278 Attack has an HP IV of 24 and an Attack IV of 11 or 12. The same formula applies from FireRed and Emerald to Scarlet and Violet.

The stat formula since Generation 3

For HP: HP = ⌊(2 × Base + IV + ⌊EV ÷ 4⌋) × Level ÷ 100⌋ + Level + 10. For the other five stats: ⌊(⌊(2 × Base + IV + ⌊EV ÷ 4⌋) × Level ÷ 100⌋ + 5) × Nature⌋, where the nature is 1.1 for the raised stat, 0.9 for the lowered stat and 1 otherwise. Each IV runs from 0 to 31; the calculator tries all 32 values and keeps those that give back the shown stat.

Worked example: level 78 Garchomp

Bulbapedia uses a level 78 Adamant Garchomp (+Attack, −Sp. Atk) with base stats 108/130/95/80/85/102 and EVs 74/190/91/48/84/23. Its shown stats are 289, 278, 193, 135, 171 and 171. Working backwards gives: HP 24, Attack 11–12, Defense 30, Sp. Atk 14–16, Sp. Def 22–23, Speed 4–5. Its real IVs (24, 12, 30, 16, 23, 5) sit inside each range.

Why a range rather than one number

One IV point adds only Level ÷ 100 of a stat point before rounding, so at low level several IVs give the same stat. Level the Pokémon up once and recalculate to narrow the range. At level 100, every IV point counts.

Limits

  • Main-series games from Generation 3 to 9 only: no Generation 1-2 DVs, Pokémon GO, Let's Go or Legends: Arceus; Legends: Z-A is not checked.
  • Only each species' default form is loaded: for a regional form or a Mega Evolution, type its base stats.
  • Hidden Power is not computed, since it needs exact IVs.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I find a Pokémon's IVs in Emerald or FireRed?

Write down its level, nature and six stats from the summary screen, then enter them with its EVs (0 for a freshly caught Pokémon). The calculator applies the Generation 3 formula and gives, for each stat, the IVs from 0 to 31 that fit.

Why does the calculator give a range of IVs?

One IV point adds only Level ÷ 100 of a stat point before rounding. At level 5, up to 20 consecutive IVs give the same stat; at level 100, each IV point adds 1 point before the nature. Level the Pokémon up once and recalculate to narrow the range.

What is the highest possible IV?

31 per stat since Generation 3, or 186 across the six stats. At level 100, an IV of 31 gives 31 more points than an IV of 0, before the nature. Generation 1 and 2 games used DVs from 0 to 15, which this calculator does not handle.

How many EVs should I enter for a wild Pokémon?

Zero: a Pokémon that has just been caught has no EVs. It earns them by battling, up to 510 in total, with a cap of 255 per stat up to Generation 5 and 252 after. At level 100, 4 EVs give 1 stat point.

Why choose the game's generation?

Some base stats have changed, mostly in Generation 6: Pikachu went from 30 to 40 Defense and from 40 to 50 Special Defense. With the wrong generation, the calculator may find no IV at all. The formula itself has not changed since Generation 3.
